We created an information platform to help voters become the change they seek

THE PROBLEM

Upon learning that my friend's child was in the classroom during the Parkland tragedy, I was filled with a strong determination to aid activists in their endeavors to reach and inform voters. I identified a significant challenge in obtaining thorough information on individual candidates and, as a result, dedicated a year to the development of voteinorout.com. This platform has successfully amassed a collection of over 10,000 articles, organized by candidate and issue.

2-4 hours a night for 12 months to bring this idea to launch

The creation of Vote In Or Out was a demanding but highly rewarding and inspiring process. It involved assembling a skilled team of friends, leveraging every connection or relationship at my disposal, organizing a successful fundraising event with the participation of students and senators, and collaborating with a mission-driven development company that would enable us to build this (Dengun). Despite facing constraints on time and resources, we were able to launch a fully functional platform prior to the 2020 election.

MY RESPONSIBILITIES

Vote In Or Out is a voter influencer platform that offers a variety of rich features, including feeds, voting, sorting, and other user tools. I was responsible for the end-to-end UX/UI design for mobile web and desktop, working under engineering and budget constraints. I also produced numerous marketing materials and printed assets for the promotion of this business.

Despite the challenges, I was able to successfully bring each feature to life in collaboration with a small engineering team. In addition to these responsibilities, I also founded the company, managed expenses, and led a team focused on marketing and outreach efforts. During the 2020 election, we joined forces with a grassroots movement led by Alyssa Milano, Fred Guttenberg, and other activists to promote the platform.

My objective with our social media strategy was to increase brand awareness but it needed to be done without any funding. We consistently post breaking political news and election results and have observed a high level of traffic as a result. It is common for users to access our website directly rather than through social media platforms, and I was surprised to find that a significant portion of our traffic, 90%, goes directly to voteinorout.com. This suggests that our strategy has been effective, despite the lengthy URL.
